July 12, 2014: Be among the first to experience Denver Botanic Gardens’ new Survival Garden. This garden features over 30 tasty wild plants. Because they are conveniently located in one place, it affords the opportunity to closely observe and learn their key identification characteristics, leaf structure, and growth habits. This experience will build your confidence to point them out on your next family outing or provide food should you become unduly detained in the mountains.
Wild plants are often categorized as edible or medicinal. But, the edible plants offer many intrinsic health benefits, as well. For example, dandelion tea has long been used as a daily liver tonic and cleanser. In this class, we will not only learn plants’ nutritional values, but also taste and sense the healing properties of teas from such plants as nettle, catnip and evening primrose. You may register on the Denver Botanic Garden’s website.
