Wild Food Company empowers people to eat nutritiously and live well with the earth. Tamara brings her extensive knowledge of wild plants to health conscious people along Colorado’s Front Range and Summit County.
She moved from the Midwest in 2000 with the desire to feed her family as chemical free and nutritiously as possible. Gardening experience revealed that while cultivated vegetables often require much care and copious amounts of water, weeds (especially below 8000 ft altitude) grew vigorously and plentifully. Additionally, inspired by Jo Robinson’s book Eating on the Wild Side, Tamara began researching the nutrient content of wild plants. She discovered that not only were they easier to grow, but indeed offered superior health benefits, and represented the perfect addition to her family’s diet.
Today, she brings experience with wild food and a sustainable philosophy of healthful food foraging. Corner stones to this philosophy are:
- Take only what you need
- Harvesting and caretaking go hand in hand
- Be mindful of foraging locations as what goes into a plant (via soil or water), is what goes into your food
- Plan to grow your own wild food for regular consumption
Tamara’s formal training with wild edible plants and survival skills, which complements an MBA from the University of Chicago, includes:
- Trained at Tom Brown’s Tracker School and Boulder Outdoor Survival School
- On-going medicinal plant internship with Carmen Corradino, Tracker School Instructor and co-founder of Mount Victory Camp in St. Croix
- Studied wild edible plants with Cattail Bob Seebeck, author of Survival Plants of Colorado
- Family Medicine Course Work; School of Natural Healing, Utah
